Ensuring we not only reflect market trends but help shape the future of people-centric ERP and advance the art of the possible, we have several ‘innovation’ teams and initiatives in place.
Developer Experience
This team is dedicated to making engineering at Unit4 smoother, faster, and more enjoyable by reducing complexity, improving productivity, and driving innovation across the development lifecycle. They work with stakeholders, run workshops, and carry out surveys to explore areas for improvement and innovation. A key focus area for the team is also AI-assisted engineering. They explore and integrate intelligent solutions, such as AI-powered coding assistants and smart automation, to accelerate development, reduce manual effort, and enhance decision-making throughout the software delivery process. Put simply, the team helps us to builds tools, automate workflows, and foster a data-driven culture that enable our developers to focus on what they do best — creating great software.
Crazy Lab Days
This is our annual innovation event designed to encourage ALL employees to share a problem or situation that they would like to either solve or improve, while also exploring groundbreaking solutions! Crazy Lab Days brings together teams from all regions, departments, and stages in their careers to collaborate on solutions that can help the business. Participants have five months to work on their ideas, with continuous support from experts across the organisation. This brings a valuable opportunity to learn, grow, and create solutions in a collaborative environment. Following this, the top five ideas/teams are then selected to spend an electrifying week together in person to turn their ideas into working prototypes. Allowing them to co-create with colleagues, get support from experts and sponsors, and experience the buzz of an innovation lab. At the end of the week, the teams present their demos and prototypes. One team is crowned the ‘Jury Winner’ and everyone gets to vote for the People’s Choice Award. The winning ideas (and sometimes even those that don’t win) are either developed further or taken into production!
Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation activities
These activities span different departments and functions across the organisation, from AI use case exploration to technological adoption. The activities are governed by three supporting bodies: our AI committee, Automation Office, and AI Expert Group. The ultimate goal of these activities is to continue transforming the ERP landscape by advancing AI and automation, thereby empowering businesses to drive efficiency and foster innovation in their processes.
Proof of Concept initiatives
These initiatives are internal, less formal initiatives which are triggered and guided by our Solution Governance team. The objective is to identify product needs and, with a focus on trends and exploration, continually evolve technology and architectural strategy.
CTO Labs
CTO Labs is an ongoing series of time-boxed and focused research projects, where ad-hoc multidisciplinary teams investigate new technologies, pursue innovative ideas with high potential, and reduce uncertainty in preparation for strategic projects. Together they help set the tone and guide our innovation and product strategy.
