Job Description

Technical Support Consultant – Level 3

Required qualifications: 5 GCSE’s including Maths, English and a Science at A-C/9-4 or equivalent

We have designed our Technical Support Consultant Apprenticeship as a starting point in your career at Unit4. We are on a journey of growth and we want to invest in developing our high performers of the future. Our Technical Support Consultant Apprenticeship is designed to take someone with an aptitude for problem solving and support them with a mixture of on-the-job training and virtual classroom learning to provide excellent people-focused solutions for our customers.

You'll be working with friendly, passionate people. You’ll have a team buddy who will help you get settled in your role and your Team Leader will support you on your journey developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours. As part of the apprenticeship scheme you will follow a training programme, focused at you achieving a level 3 apprenticeship as IT Solutions Technician. The typical duration for this course is 18 months.

What you will do:

As a Technical Support Consultant, you are the first point of contact for our customers on IT and Business Application related questions for our software. You will provide professional, efficient, and effective support service to Unit4 customers.

This includes:

  • Progressing each issue through to conclusion, liaising with colleagues and our product development team.
  • Managing customer problems; taking ownership of complicated issues and always keeping customers updated of progress.
  • Investigating, process and document any issues with the software to the Technical Support Team.
  • Highlighting to your Team Leader any serious cases that need further investigation.
  • Complying with our information and security requirements and all Company business procedures, policies, and ISO standards.
  • Investigating, documenting and presenting process improvements that enhance the customer experience.
  • Identifying opportunities for service improvement or chargeable activities and raising these via the appropriate channels..
  • Working in a virtual team environment to help and assist colleagues.

  You will develop skills in the Following area:

  • Unit4 Financials product
  • ServiceNow
  • Current Microsoft Windows Server operating systems
  • Web Services and XMLi
  • Unix/Linux/iSeries/Oracle Databases
  • Windows Database server and SQL Server performance tools (eg. SQL profiler)
  • Understanding in the following areas:
    • working in a database-centric, client-server to web-enabled environment
    • working knowledge of Java containers (e.g. Glassfish, Wildfly, JBoss)
    • Java based applications
  • Write and understand SQL queries.
  • TCP/IP and fundamental networking concepts.
  • ITIL

Qualifications

Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who wants to use their problem-solving skills to help people. You will be curious and have an instinct for finding solutions. You will like analysing situations and finding the most effective solution. If you have previously had a role where giving great customer service has been important then that will be an asset.

At Unit 4 we trust you to get your job done. You will be given tasks and deadlines and so being able to manage your time well is very important. This role is likely to be home-based and so it is essential that you feel confident to ask for help when you need it and are able to seek-out solutions from a range of sources.

You will need enthusiasm to get to really know our software so that you can understand the problems and find solutions. That’s why an interest in IT would be really helpful, although not essential.
